DON LYSTER

Don Lyster joined Capitol Solutions® as Vice President and Counsel in October 2008. Mr. Lyster brings over a decade of Capitol Hill experience and substantive expertise in telecommunications and immigration policy to the firm.

For the past four years, Mr. Lyster has served as Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis (D-32nd CA), a key member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and Co-Vice Chair of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. In addition to his role as Congresswoman Solis’ top political and policy advisor, Mr. Lyster coordinated Solis’ legislative, political, and communications strategies.

Before becoming Chief of Staff, Lyster served Congresswoman Solis for three years as Legislative Counsel. In that position, he focused on telecommunications, immigration, trade, and defense issues and served as her labor advisor during her tenure on the House Education and Labor Committee.

Mr. Lyster’s Capitol Hill career began in the office of Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) as a Legislative Aide. Lyster assisted the Senator on appropriations, immigration, labor, judiciary, trade, and education policy matters.

Born in New York and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Lyster is a graduate of Loyola College in Maryland with a law degree and a graduate certificate in law and public policy from Catholic University. He and his wife and son live in Washington, DC.
