Daniel C. Tate, Jr.
Dan Tate, Jr. joined CAPITOL SOLUTIONS® as a Partner in March 2003. He brings over 15 years of high-level government relations experience to the firm, including 10 years in senior staff positions in the White House, U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. House of Representatives. Throughout his career, Mr. Tate has developed long-standing relationships with key centrists in both Houses of Congress. Mr. Tate is perennially named by The Hill as one of the leading lobbyists in Washington. He provides clients with government relations support, coalition management, and strategic advising.
Mr. Tate served for three years as Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs in the Clinton Administration, where he was a key member of the White House team responsible for developing and implementing the Clinton Administration’s legislative agenda on trade, environment, telecommunications, energy, transportation and financial services legislation. Mr. Tate was also the President’s liaison to Democratic and Republican moderates in Congress, particularly the New Democrats and the Blue Dogs.
Prior to his work at the While House, Mr. Tate served for two years as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy, where he was a chief strategist and advocate for the Secretary of Energy and the Department with the U.S. House of Representatives. There, he developed and implemented the Agency’s legislative agenda on electricity policy, environmental remediation, and national security priorities. Mr. Tate also worked for four years as Rep. W.J. “Billy” Tauzin’s Legislative Director and chief political advisor, where he helped craft landmark energy and telecommunications legislation.
Since leaving the White House in 1998, Mr. Tate has used his high-level government experience and legislative expertise to successfully represent a diverse group of Fortune 500 companies and major policy coalitions—including those in the energy, environment, telecommunications, and health care industries –on matters before the Legislative and Executive Branches of government.
A native of Athens, Georgia, Mr. Tate is a graduate of Amherst College and lives with his wife and his two children in Washington, DC. He is also currently on the Board of Directors to the First Tee of Washington, DC.
